At 9:35 Stallman implores us not to listen to people like Linus and Linc...

"We expect all the maintainers of GNU software to relicense in the next few months. It's important. But other free software developers should also relicense. There will be people who ask you not to do so. A minority of our community seems to be very angry about GPLv3. And when we try to probe to find out their motives, it usually turns out that they disagree with the goal of the GNU GPL, the goal of guaranteeing freedom for every user. Please, when people who hold those views ask you to leave users' freedom vulnerable, don't listen to them. Defend the users' freedom. That's important. And even if there are people who would ask us not to do it, we got to do it. We have to defend the users' freedom against these threats."

I've always thought it strange to suggest that you shouldn't listen to people who disagree with you. I always seek understanding and truth, and you don't get that by shutting out people who disagree with you and might point out something you missed and change the way you think.

Perhaps he didn't mean it that way, but I think it's better not to say, "don't listen to them," and instead to say, "our way is better, and here's why..."

Richard is looking a little more rough around the edges than usual. If this guy came to your company and wanted you to switch to GNU/linux software, would you do it. I think I would have checked to see if he was related to the uni-bomber.

If a business guy came into your home the day after your wife had given birth, and suggested that a chip be incorporated into the back of your newborn child's head, so that in case he or she ever committed a serious crime they could be caught as soon as possible, would you do it? I think I would have checked to see if he was related to the NSA.
