The scrolling works when you add this package, though you lose the "double-click drag" thing. I think it's a good trade. I need the scroll from my trackpad.

Are you seeing this behavior in GNOME when you shut the lid while still plugged in to the AC? If so, check the gnome-power-manager. It's usually set to just blank the screen when the lid is shut and the AC is connected. You can change the suspend settings so in there so it will suspend while connected to the AC. I always forget to check that. Also, try manually suspending by clicking on the logout button and choosing suspend.

Man do I feel stupid. I must have had it plugged into the A/C when I noticed it was set to blank the screen when I closed the lid, so I set that to suspend instead. Well, I must have done that when the A/C was plugged in, which might have caused problems, because I just manually tried it from battery power only and it worked. You have to go through the audio reset, but that's a minor annoyance.

With working vertical scroll and suspend, I'm much happier about my laptop. I don't think I'm going to load powertop and start tweaking things to get the battery life, since—like CapnObvious—I've a nine cell battery on this thing that gives me over 5 hours of battery life, easy.

Thanks Chess!
