Linux is for Grandmas... now what do we use?

Post by elgordo123 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 2:02 pm

I was listening to Leo Laporte's radio show today (8/12/07). A lady called in who turned about to be a retired grandmother. She talked about how she used Suse linux and loved it. She also raved about how easy it is to use.
She is on a fixed income and didn't want to pay for Microsoft's OS. I dont think he has posted an mp3 of the show yet, it is about 40 minutes in.
At one point she talked about how she really like the "little box where you can type words in, instead of clicking on the pictures". Leo said "Oh, the command line!" and she answered "It is so easy just to type in what you want it to do and it just does it". Take that all you anti-command line bitches!
Now that Grandma's are using Linux, I dont feel so cutting edge anymore. Is there anything else we can use? Now I"ll tell my friends "I use Linux" and they reply "Linux? My grandma uses that...haha...."

I guess it's time to install the ultimate anti-grandma distro - Gentoo!

So, by our definitions, geeks and grandma's have tons of spare time and no idea how to use it?

Leo has finally posted the show here:
http://techguylabs.com/radio/ShowNotes/Show378

He starts talking to her about 21:30 in. She is using PCLinux, rather than Suse, which he orignally said during the show.
Go grandma, go!

I dont know how to post to slashdot, someone please do.
