It supposedly can handle a multitude of ogg bitrates:

Please do! I would be very interested to know if it handles ogg well or not. I see it comes with some kind of case, which is a big concern of mine. I exclusively use flash players for jogging, and if it doesn't have a decent armband, I'm reticent toward the idea of fashioning one for it.

cool. I love my iAudio M3, it plays OGGs great so yours probly will too. I was thinking about selling my M3 and getting an X5 but for now I'll stick with my M3.

that thing sounds really cool and what I am looking for - I am looking for something that plays ogg files. That is what I have all my cds ripped to.

keep us up to date on the show and I think I am going to put that my list to buy when the funds come in.

how is the screen on that thing does it look it could take a beating?
the only other one I might consider is a refurbished ipod shuffle but it doesn't play ogg files. the thing I like most about that is that there is no screen and it looks like it could take a beating.

But I have the same feelings you do towards apple. Why can't they come out with a version itunes for linux. It can't be that hard if they already have it running on their supposedly based BSD Osx.

I am thinking they probably have some kind of drm tied to the kernel with itunes and I bet they would have to realease it as gpl if they wrote itunes for linux. That can be the only thing I can think of - otherwise with the little trouble it would be it doesn't make sense to cut another revenue stream off.

Its not that they can't but that they won't. If Mac was the most popular OS they never would have put iTunes on Windows but it's not and so to get the huge income they want from iTunes they had to bring it to Windows. Linux is not the most popular desktop OS by far.

Well the thing is made of plastic and comes with a clear plastic case. It also comes with a couple reusable plastic films to protect the screen with. I'm sure it's durable enough for non contact sports (minus swimming). The thing barely weighs 1 oz. I won't let my 21 month old son play with it though :)

It's not hard for Apple to develop a port to linux. Basically the answer is Steve Jobs is a fvcking tool!

Just make sure you find what the playback range for ogg the player supports and you should be golden

It's only got an 8 hour battery life. Also, it's not USB 2.0, so transfers will be slooow.

yeah I was going to sell my iAudio M3 for the X5 but I havn't yet. I might get it for christmas. It is awesome it even has USB-ToGo so you can download your images off a digital camera to it and then view them on it too. Dan had the X5L though, which is the same thing only with more battery life (35 hours instead of 14)
