Girlfriend asked me to replace her XP with Linux

Post by lizerazu » Thu Sep 27, 2007 12:53 pm

I was so happy when she asked me to put linux on her laptop. She had been using my laptop (kubuntu) and my desktop (F7) for a while and asked me if I could take XP off her computer and replace it with Linux because XP "sucked". I'd like to note that we've only been dating a short time and i never actually pimp Linux out to people. She also has an Intel Centrino based laptop to it was easier than Pie (or Pi).

Needless to say, she wants all the non-free stuff on her comp (like i have on mine). I decided to get the latest LinuxMint and boot it up live. Showed her how easy it was for me to use FSpot, gimp, Inkscape (she's in the arts world but doesn't want a mac... perfect woman) and OpenOffice to look at her pics, open docs and all that jazz. She was like... INSTALL it. So now she has LinuxMint on her laptop. I think their gnome and configuration is the nicest out there and they now offer all of it without any of the non-free stuff for all you freedom lovers out there. It's really just ubuntu made pretty (for those who don't know)

Just thought it was a good story. One more for the good guys. Taking away windows, one person at a time.

Guess this should have been on the Anything Goes forum. At least it was Linux related.

Nope, this is perfect for this forum.

Congratulations! Your girlfriend seems like a pretty smart woman!

On a related note, my son, who is a senior in HS, just asked me to format his drive to include a Linux distro on a separate partition. This, after months of his deriding Linux to me over and over again, and I didn't really try that hard to convert him! :o

On a very flimsy related topic, I started using Linux when my girlfriend left. Our laptop she took with her was running Windows and by getting stuck into Linux I pretty much replaced both with Linux. So in a sense you could say I left my Girlfriend and Windows for Linux!

Told you it was flimsy!
