I think the black text works better, but I'm not sure if the thin white outline to the black text does it any favours. Did you try just black borderless text? Maybe looks too plain?
Remember, if in doubt, just use Comic Sans and stick in some flashing unicorn gifs. That's my solution to everything.

Here's another take on it. Just fooling around during lunch.

@rfquerin
ah, yes, that led is pretty sweet looking. however, do you think the text on the right would flow a little better if line 2 and 3 were pushed to the right to match the angle of the gray panel?

I chose to left justify instead of right justify. So sue me.

When I first saw your reply I thought you were going to suggest racing stripes...
Yeah, you're probably right though. I might try adjusting the kerning to fully justify it, but when you space letters apart in a url I find it starts to look weird.
Also, the more I look at it, the more fuzzy the edges of that flap thingy are on the right hand side. Gotta work on that some more maybe.
Also I've always wanted to incorporate those chrome lady silhouettes you see on trucker's mudflaps into a web graphic. Hmm..

Slightly tweaked. Aligned the text as suggested and also tried to make the text look a little 'inset'.

Looks good, although I can barely see the "tllts.org" text on my ancient CRT monitor. I guess I'm probably in the minority of people with really dim, old-ass monitors. Looks fine on my laptop.

Actually, I'm on my LCD right now, and I also feel that it is a little hard to make out. I think I would prefer the whole box to be that lighter shade of gray instead of having the two tone, just to increase readability. Banner ads are looked at for a fraction of a second. If it is not immediately readable, then it will fail to communicate, I would think.

Here's another tweak. This time I brightened and shined things up a bit. I also changed the wrap thingy to read with white text. Should be more readable now.

Yes, much easier to read.

Another...
Was going for legibility in this one. Not completely satisfied with the black text. It's a little plain looking. I think a little bevel like on rfquerin's lcd would look rather neat.
