It will probably actually sell for closer to $400 though. Isn't that about where the N800 sold for when it first came out?

The N800 have dropped to around $230-$240 in anticipation of this. My guess is you'll be able to pick an N800 for about $199 once the N810 hits the streets.

The internal storage is 2GB. The rest of the N810's features are similar to that of its predecessors. It has instant messaging, e-mail, a media player, an RSS reader, an image viewer, an FM transmitter, and a microSD card slot.

I hope the part about it having a microSD slot is a mistake. That would be the dumbest thing ever to go from 2 full sized SD slots in the N800 to 1 microSD slot in the N810.

I agree w/ Pat, it is priced too high. I see Asus released the Eee PC for $199 (another Linux gizmo toy).

No clamshell again sucks, really sucks IMO, but the keyboard is a very good idea. I can only assume this is to make aftermarket $$$ off of covers or something equally as lame. The clamshell was probably the single best thing about the 770 IMO - oh well. Integrated GPS rocks, but the unit getting pretty damn thick now, by the looks of it.

Nokia has some really big issues with choosing a memory format and sticking with it for some reason - I hear the same complaints about their phones.

Obviously just first impressions...

Completely agree. It's crazy that practically all of Nokia's phones are clam shell design, yet they refuse to give us a clamshell tablet. Why the hell do we have to deal with cases and covers to avoid destroying the screen when throwing this in your pocket with your keys? And the fact they added a real keyboard to this and still didn't take the opportunity to put it on a hinged cover protecting the screen is almost like a big F U to the user.

They have replaced Opera browser with Maemo Firefox with Flash 9 and Ajax capabilities. This software update has apparently been made available free to existing N800 users (LINC!)

Also has built in GPS

They claimed that they were going to backport a bunch of shit to the 770, too, but that never really happened. Last time I checked, there was some pretty large disparity between the 770 and 800 communitywise, too - things that are only available on one or the other. A fractured community isn't good for anyone, really. I hope that the specs on the n800 and the n810 are similar enough this doesn't happen again.

This technology is so weird - I want to embrace it, but I don't really have room in my life for another gadget that doesn't actually replace another one I already have to carry around. Like I've said in the past, I think that if I managed a campus or something, and had wifi available everywhere, this would be an excellent tool for on-the-run computing. I don't, so it would really just be an expensive geek toy which I have no excuse for buying.

There is a boat load of nokia 770 models on ebay now. Some with a starting price as low as 50 dollars. for that price it would be fun to play with, Is there a vt100 emulator for it?

There is a shell - not sure if it's vt100. I only have few devices I attach to that really care, so I don't tend to check. $50-100 for a 770 would totally be worth it. They're certainly very fun, even if I don't consider them especially "useful." Kids love them - tuxpaint is available (though kind of a pita to install) and they play movies, albeit in a very constrained format.
