Red Hat's new CEO

A couple of days ago, I read this interview with Jim Whitehurst, Red Hat's new CEO: http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9839996-7.html

Prior to that, I had read this blog post by Michael Tiemann, Vice President of Open Source Affairs at Red Hat: http://www.opensource.org/node/238

Judging from the statements and information in those two articles, I'd say Red Hat has got the right guy, what do you guys think?

I fully agree, looks like someone who understands free software. (Note my rockbox post, the new CEO inspired me to ditch the Apple firmware).

He certainly sounds like a guy who knows what he's talking about, and I like that, because there's nothing worse than people who talk about something they don't know shit about (Hint: Ted Stevens, because you it's all a series of tubes!).

Also, I think even for people who aren't directly using a Red Hat, or Red Hat-based distribution a big change at Red Hat (Which this doesn't sound like, because both Matthew Szulik, and apparently Jim Whitehurst understand free software) is something to pay attention to, because no matter what distro you use, you essentially use Red Hat contributed code. Both in the kernel layer, but also in X, GNOME etc. etc. tons of stuff. Regardless of what one might think of Red Hat, their absolutely ginormous contributions to free software is nothing at all to be sneezed at.
