Okay, I just listened Episode 239, and Pat kept making veiled references to a Linux Podcast that uses Windows to edit the show (although Dann seemed to indicate that this was not the case, that instead some encoding software made it seem as if it was done on Windows when it did the ID3 tags). Also Pat made the veiled reference that the show advertises Windows only software. So spill the beans, what show is this, I must be missing something because I'm amazed by the number of shows that do everything on Linux and have no advertising at all.

I will say for the record, that I don't know if I would fault someone for using Windows to record and edit a high quality sounding podcast. If individuals have spent a small fortune on sound equipment that only works with Windows, but in the last few years have seen the light and now for their desktops and servers they only use Linux, I can understand. Often when you go through the expense of setting up a sound studio the only options you know about are Mac and Windows. Also such an investment of time in learning the software and the cost of hardware means you need to get the most out of your investment. Setting up a nice sound studio can be done in Linux, no doubt, but there are still issues that might keep people using Windows or Mac like: expensive sound cards with limited or no support in Linux, or midi controllers that only work in Windows or Mac, or USB mixers that can't be used easily in Linux with all their features. I know from personal experience though, that such a set up might only be 5% of your total computer usage during the week, and everything else you do is in Linux or BSD.

By the way, I have enjoyed the last number of shows a lot. It has been nice to hear from Linc again. Allan seems to be talking more than ever lately. I have enjoyed the EeePC take from Dann and Mrs. Dann. Pat's stories about helping move his brother's family over to Linux have been practical and interesting as well. Also there has been a good variety of content as well, often going into different types of content in the second hour than what the interview focused on. Anyway, it has been fun to listen. With some great shows coming to an end, it continues to amaze me that I can download TLLTS each week. Way to go guys!

At the end of the day people are free to use whatever they want. Personally I think it's a little hypocritical to be a F/OSS advocate and use proprietary software to produce that message. I think it's also hypocritical that a show's primary sponsor only sells Windows software. I am not against sponsorship of podcasts. We would be willing to have another sponsor if their product reflected our ideals. This is just my opinion. People are free to disagree with me. The notion of eating our own dog food rings true. How can we expect others to go down this path if we're full of sh|t??

Pat, you are definitely right, in your points. It makes a stronger case when your Linux advocacy materials have been produced on Linux. This is one of the things that you guys have shown consistently with your program. I have always admired that TLLTS not only takes about and encourages the use of Linux, but you are really showcasing the power and capabilities of Linux with the program, and all of the other supporting open source technologies which run the website, this forum, and other aspects of the show. Way to go!

I guess I can understand the "Linux Link Radio" since Linux embedded is their focus, and I wouldn't be surprised if as a business they are using Windows as their desktop or on some of their desktops. It seems as if many businesses will use Linux in embedded devices, even develop embedded devices, and run Linux servers, but don't always make that final step of Linux on the desktop. Although that seems to be changing.

I lost interest in Linux Log a long time ago, so haven't tuned in to hear those ads. I haven't added half of the new feeds that Dann has put up recently. I need to get going, but I can't get too many or else I won't have time for TLLTS.

Personally, I set up a sound studio before I got into Linux 4 years ago. I would love to convert it over to Linux, and even have a lot of hardware that is compatible. However, I'm not the only one that uses it. I would first have to find software that has Cool Edit's, Que Marking feature, Audacity does not have this yet, and I have not sat down to see if Audour has this feature. That one feature makes it possible for me to record, put a few que marks in the file while recording so another person can come and in a matter of 4 minutes edit a 20 minute recording without having to listen to the whole 20 minutes carefully. Then I would have to retrain the other people that use that computer. When I only spend about 1 hour a week in front of that machine, it doesn't seem like it would be worth it to me to switch it over when it does what it needs to do.

At the same time, I have never used the studio to do a Linux podcast or to even record a few of the audio comments that I have sent into your show. I too feel strongly that when advocating Linux, you need to be using Linux. So I suppose that audio studio could get more use if I was willing to look the other way, but right now I'm not.

lugradio use cubase on a mac , they don;t hide this fact either. Jono has said its because he has used cubase for years and cannot be bothered to learn Audour

It would be a good idea if you guys could record one show using Audour , i know it would proberly be hard because you guys are all in different locations..
