I totally agree with you. At least with google phone book (type someone's name in +state they live in) you can opt out and have yourself removed (which I've done).

Fortunately in Europe patent DNA, i feel sorry for you guys in the US.

Article 5

1. The human body, at the various stages of its formation and development, and the simple discovery of one of its elements, including the sequence or partial sequence of a gene, cannot constitute patentable inventions.

2. An element isolated from the human body or otherwise produced by means of a technical process, including the sequence or partial sequence of a gene, may constitute a patentable invention, even if the structure of that element is identical to that of a natural element.

3. The industrial application of a sequence or a partial sequence of a gene must be disclosed in the patent application.

Article 6

The phone book is public info, as far as I know. Why shouldn't it be indexed like everything else?

I suppose that's a good reason! Still, you can't blame Google that the phone company made your number public.

I think we're getting to a place where a lot of our ideas about privacy need to be rethought. Just for fun I googled the ex-CEO of my company and found out what his house looks like. Scary, if you think about it.

I'm just lucky I guess, because the only land line I've had in the past 4 years is in my wife's name (I moved into her house when we married), and now I only have a cell phone. There's very little personal info out there about me, and I haven't been that careful.
