Windows fanboys retreating to Linux

Post by weex » Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:43 am

Ran across a video on YouTube today from a Mac fanboy that seems sorta pissed that the Windows fanboys he's used to sparring with are "retreating" to Linux and rather than owning that Vista is a dud, they are now budding Linux fanboys. Any comment?

I just wanted to say, welcome new Linux fanboys. May we help you shed your fanboy status by helping you get started programming, writing documentation, or providing support for the community.

P.S. To make up for using the word fanboy so many times, I from here on out forbid myself from ever again using the term.

On the Vista forums http://thevistaforums.com/, not only is there a Linux section. But there are a growing number of Vista users doing dual boot with Linux.
Linux Mint 9 Gnome, Ubuntu 8.10 Easy Peasy , Open Suse, Windows XP PRO and others.

Nice link. I never thought of all the Windows and Mac forums that are out there. Those would be great places to get out there and try to answer some Linux questions. Just thinking of how to support new users wherever they may be... I wonder which are the big ones along those lines?

I think a good place to reach out to new and potential new users would be the various Windows support forums. Dies hard Windows XP users who feel burned that MSFT discontinued XP (for the most part) would be ideal candidates for Linux.

I have several slogans that could help recruit new Linux users.

"XP fans....Microsoft let you down? We have a solution"

"Vista sucks?...... We have the answer"

"Can't find XP anymore? We have a great solution"

"Your new Vista computer slower than a snail? We have the answer"

We could also start several web pages that could all point to a pro Linux site that would be aimed squarely at disgruntled XP users.

Possible domain names.

One such Windows forum that already has quite an impressive Linux section is Neowin: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showforum=126

Found it through big-boards.com...
