Good Linux Coverage

Post by mikeschoon » Mon Jul 14, 2008 9:09 pm

Okay, we've got a thread going to track Linux haters that are outside the rank and file of the community. Can we start one for the non community sites that are good? I think Lifehacker.com has decent Linux coverage for a site that one would figure would be mac and windows centric. Anyone else have any opinions?

CNET (http://www.cnet.com) does a pretty good job. I listen to the Buzz Out Loud podcast (http://reviews.cnet.com/buzz-out-loud-podcast/) and they seem to have pretty balanced coverage. They're not as absolutely Linux fanboyish as some people here might demand, but they know what Linux is and do Linux stories when Linux is in the news.

They also have a policy where if they do 3 Apple stories in a row they do a "Linux chaser" to balance things out! :) It's by far my favorite tech news podcast.

I also like "the Real Deal," Gadgettes and "MP3 Insider" podcasts on CNET.

I like the Mike Tech Show. He deals evenhandedly with Windows, Mac, and Linux, and he always tries to give links to free and/or open source utilities. Like most of us on our day jobs, he deals mostly with Windows, but he talks a lot about using Ubuntu and various Linux live CDs as rescue tools. Give him a listen.

The Computer America guys dedicate one show a month (3rd Tuesday) entirely to Linux:
http://computeramerica.com/

They used to have Marcel Gagne on there but Larry Bushey from Going Linux has been "the Linux Guy" lately. He was on last night's show:

I wish others would take a cue from these guys.

Does anyone know what happened with Marcel on CA? I have been listening to their Linux episodes for a year or so. One of the hosts (Carey?) became progressively more antagonistic to both Marcel and Linux, and some of the exchanges on his last appearance became more than a little testy. I have looked on both of their sites to try and find out if Marcel got fed up and quit, or if they decided to replace him, but have found nothing.
