Ted "Series of Tubes" Stevens Indicted
Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has been indicted on corruption charges. While everyone remembers his boneheaded description of the Internet, not everyone remembers that it was made in the context of attacking a Net Neutrality amendment in a committee bill; the amendment failed to pass. Advocates of net neutrality can indulge in a little schadenfreude as Stevens gets his justly earned desserts.

Good riddance! Now, can you please impeach Bush next?

As for Stevens, he's an old fool. Corruption from any politician from any party is completely unacceptable. Sharpe James (former mayor of Newark, N.J.) was sentenced yesterday to 2 years in jail for massive corruption. He was looking at 20 years and the judge gave him a lessor sentence because he's "older". Anybody else probably would of got 10 years in prison.

At this point, I'm not really worried about how much time he gets. What are you going to do with an 85-year-old man, sentence him to 30 days to life? What I am hoping for, if the Democrats get the majority in the Senate, is for Byron Dorgan to get chairmanship of his committee. Dorgan is very tech savvy and a passionate advocate of net neutrality. He cosponsored, with Republican Olympia Snowe, the ammendment that Stevens grandstanded against. In any case, it is hard to imagine anyone more ignorant and out of touch taking his place.

They just need to go after the rest of them. I believe most of our politicians are selling their votes. Just look at the FISA legislation that just passed covering over the President's illegal spying program and giving immunity to the telecoms. And the sentencing is a shame because this corruption costs us so much more than the damage done by a young man selling cocaine, but he'll get over 10 years in prison for his crime. Though our country has one of the best foundations ever created, it has been steadily corrupted over the last 200 years by evil men and the love of money.
