Then I heard about DVDShrink for Linux and of course the thought of running a DVD archiving suite natively in Linux rather then through some Windows emulator was defenitly something good to hear.
The install is a simple shell script that when you run it tells you what you are lacking if anything in order for it to install on your system. for me I'm running Ubuntu Hoary and I was able to apt-get everything I needed to make DVDShrink run with the eception of transcode. I did find a Ubuntu .deb for that though. After transcode was installed I reran the install.sh and it installs
There are some differences from the Linux version that where avilable in the windows version. In the Linux version you don't get all the menus... but for me this is now big deal I like being able to pop in a backup and just have it start to play the movie instead of go through trailer after trailer only to get to the dvd menu just to start the movie. You do still get the chapters so you can just go ahead or back scenes if you need to.

It took a little over 30 min. for DVDShrink to rip shrink and be ready to burn back to a dvd.

You setup everything the first time you run it but you can still reconfigure it later if you need to or you can just choose from some options to do differnt things.
