Ubuntu 8.10 seems to be better now.
The first time I upgraded my main desktop from 8.04 to 8.10 it was a disaster. I upgraded the server at that same time, but it went well except for having to change a few configuration files. no biggy. This time I did the live gui upgrade and things went well. Now it seems things are much snappier over the network. My server is a pII 450 with 640megs ram and the desktop is an amd 1.5 with 512meg ram and nvidia 5200. the network is 10/100. Web apps such as eyeos just pop up on the web browser much faster than before. Videos on the web do not seem to have as much latency problems either. It is like I bought a whole system. Amarok still has a problem with daap servers though.
