Back in the day when I was between the ages 5 and 10 I recall having this large rifle-like gun that shot these toy cars out. The gun was pretty long, about two or three feet and at the bottom had this little lever about 2 inches that had to be depressed on the floor to allow the cars to be shot. One would have to lay on the floor depressing the lever which angled the rifle barrel about 15 degrees or so. The cars were loaded like shotgun shells and you would shoot them out across the floor. I brought this up on Linux cranks last night but for the life of me no one could recall this toy or find any mention of it on the web.
I recalled modding it so you did not need to depress the lever and you could shot the cars out like a regular gun. Not very safe.
I don't think this was a matchbox or hot wheels toy, but I could be wrong.
Some one come to the rescue on this.
