What are the chances of M$ basing Longhorn on the Solaris kernel?

Likely, OSX is based on Darwin

Longhorn to include the Solaris kernel?

Post by Patrick » Wed Apr 28, 2004 9:00 am

Anyone catch last nights linux show? Eric Raymond brought up the 'real reason' behind M$ settling with Sun. Longhorn will have a new kernel based on Solaris. This is a pretty wild idea but not completely unimanageable. M$ would be taking a page out of Apples play book.

Yeah, but the Darwin kernel is opensource, solaris is not open source. The exact opposite. So in reality, they are not taking a page from Apple's book. What would be happening is the last of the biggest closed source OS's are coming together in hopes to embrace and extend their lifespan.
