LOL! Nevermind that the coder is coding on an old G3 iMac (note the handle at the top).

Open Source isn't Communism. Open Source is just Socialism.

Hey greggh, could you elaborate a little further here?greggh wrote:Open Source isn't Communism. Open Source is just Socialism.

It was a joke. But behind the joke I meant the following:Tsuroerusu wrote:Hey greggh, could you elaborate a little further here?greggh wrote:Open Source isn't Communism. Open Source is just Socialism.

Since Stallman says that he does not agree with Open Source because it does not go far enough in actually stressing the importance of freedom... Socialism, while seeking to address income inequality and provide for the poor, does not go far enough in that it does not demand that the workers own the means of production.

I agree with you a good deal of the way, however there's a good saying that goes "All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists". Communism is essentially a sub-category of socialism, so in this sense socialism can advocate that workers own the means of production, it just depends on "which socialism", if you will, we're talking about.greggh wrote:Since Stallman says that he does not agree with Open Source because it does not go far enough in actually stressing the importance of freedom...
