FLOSS Adding OGG

Post by gorkon » Fri Oct 02, 2009 3:22 pm

Was listening to FLOSS and Leo said if he could find someone to host it and do the work, they could be interested in posting a OGG and Jono said the same thing. Wondering if we could do it or if the Linux podcaster community can?

Sure if they're willing to share the money they get from their sponsors. And I'm sure they want someone to encode the file for them as well? <sarcasm>How generous of those guys to "offer" us an ogg file</sarcasm>

In all seriousness, how hard is it for them to just encode an ogg version of their show? Hell, they can even convert their MP3 to an ogg. It's just talk so I don't think it would matter if it was compressed again during the conversion process. :?:

Heck, Max can convert files to ogg if they need something that works on the Mac

And would ya look at that! Max is free software! Oh, the sheer irony... :P

Well that beggar the question, if they are such a popular show, would the ogg download amount incur a cost for the hoster? I would gladly host the ogg feed but if the bandwidth is going to cost me that is another story.

So Leo states that it costs $350k to run the TWIT network and he made $1.5 million:

So why the f*** does the community need to do his work and host his files for him ?!?!

I'm with you Pat. There's no reason why Leo can't do this himself. FLOSS Weekly is a show about open source for crying out loud and it's always been primarily MP3 only, which is completely stupid. It would literally take Leo 5 extra minutes to encode an ogg version. Just goes to show that Leo isn't very committed to open source.
