+1 on everything you said. The USPTO and software patents in general are all pure bullshit. I don't care what people say about Microsoft's CodePlex, Mono, and anything else Microsoft claims to do in the guise of "good faith to free and open source software." Exactly, they may try to put on sheep's clothing, but when something like this happens it's immediately obvious where their intentions really lie. There's been a lot of discussion about ms trying to be nicer to the floss community, but their business model simply doesn't allow them to be any shade of nice.
