I realize that this has already been spoken of, and I haven't listened past this episode yet, but...

The HDHomeRun worked with MythTV from the very beginning of it's addition to MythTV with both tuners.

As of MythTV 0.21 they added in the ability to record multiple streams from one frequency on some HD tuner cards. This ability they named MultiRec. The HDHomeRun did not have this feature enabled with 0.21. They have added it for 0.22. I have paid attention to this because I believe it will help with my back to back recordings.

What this means, is if you have a HD station that gives you multiple sub channels, you can now record on more than one of those sub- channels without needing to use another physical tuner. It can look kind of confusing because the backend setup program will list more than one tuner for each physical tuner. For example, I set it up with the max of 5 per tuner, and it saved 10 tuners in the setup program.

My local CBS affiliate has 7 sub channels of which 3 are presently used. 58.1 CBS, 58.2 WMLW, 58.5 (I Don't recall). Before if I wanted to record a program at the same time on both 58.1 and 58.2 I would use both tuners in the HDHomerun device. Now with multirec It should only use one tuner.

This multirec capability should also alleviate somewhat the problem with wanting to have hard minutes behind and in front of a recording, where you are recording two consecutive shows on the same channel. This I haven't verified yet though I am hoping.

One other thing about the HDHomeRun that I haven't heard you mention... It has a built in IR Receiver (no blaster). If you put it by a front end, you can actually use it's IR receiver to control that front end.

Hope this helps to clarify things.

Thanks for the clarifications. So conceivably you could record 4 shows at once if the recordings 1 & 2 were on the same frequency and 3 & 4 were on the same. Very cool. Thanks for the clarifications. I have to read up on the capabilities of the HDHomeRun.
