Interesting, I wonder if they will only let you buy one if you sub to Sprint. The least expensive E Reader I have seen advertised, was at Micro Center for $169. I was wondering... Are there any distros that can turn really low powered, low memory computers into E Readers? I have a bunch of laptops some with 48mb to 64 mb of ram. Thinking of maybe making these into a E reader rather than use it as a computer. Most of these have motherboard limits of how much ram one could put in there so like 64 MB is tops for most of them. The idea is to use them as a E book reader and leave one in the car and at work and if it gets lost or stolen...no big deal.

Bsd is also something to consider. I had an old Gateway Laptop I put something on. I will have to drag it out of the closet. Oops, the hd died on it. Deli linux is an option. You would almost have to use an older kernel or something embedded. I ran debian/lenny/fluxbox on my old p1 laptop with 96 meg ram for years till it died recently. One other kind of crazy option is to set up gpxe on the laptop so it connects to a remote ltsp or drbl server via the web or portable ltsp server. . Using a sheevaplug or pogoplug could make an excellent portable local ltsp server. Wish I had one to experiment with. What I would do would be to use a command line based system and then just convert the pdf's to text (ascii) for easy reading.
