I've been a big fan of the HDHomeRun for a few years now. Rock solid and works great.
Looks like at CES Silicondust is going to announce a new HDHomeRun that supports cable cards. Questions remain on if this is going to be Windows only. Hope it isn't. Silicondust have always been Linux friendly, so I hope we will see Linux support.

Looks interesting. Hopefully it's OS agnostic as much as the current HDHomerun. Might be an expensive item $300+ ?

Probably 500USD+. I remember listening to a podcast and them talking about CableCard tuners being 600+ for a single tuner, however that may have be due in part to the licensing, thus a very low rate of adoption among other reasons. The article quotes SageTV creating a plugin for CableCard and SageTV apparently supports Linux. Besides I thought the FCC declared CableCard a failure? I both love and loath the Homerun for it's network based connectivity. It's awesome for making it OS agnostic but I've been having stuttering issues lately(Possibly a network issue?). It was working fine a few weeks ago. Something I need to look into eventually but Comcast has been nice enough to leave many Analog Cable channels running, so the trusty PVR-150 and 250 are still chugging along nicely. I love my Hauppauge 150; at least until Comcast cuts analog in my region. As much as CableCard support would be nice, the entry price will likely be too high for me. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't cable companies charge per month for CableCards? Which kind of nullifies one of my main reasons for having a MythTV setup.

Here's the official announcement:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/hdho ... r-for-249/
- Windows7 only
- 1 cable card tuner that can record 2 HD programs at once
- only $249
If HDHomerun could implement this for Linux machines they would sell a ton of them with the MythTV crowd. What a bummer. Blame M$
