i think i found a new feature

Friday night my cable company expanded the clear Qam channels they offer so today i went about re-scanning and renaming/mapping all of my new HD channeles (20 in total WOOT !) and when i was done, i went back to add in the channel logos and i got to search and locate the channels that did not have a logo. after i added all my logos, a box poped up asking if i would like to submit this data back to... i want to say schedules direct, but it may have said mythtv... to " make it a better experience for other users"

has anyone else noticed that ? or was it a PPA release ? i just thought that maybe next time you guys talk to any of the developers, see if they can add a similar feature to the QAM mappings to make that easier.

Where are you located and what cable company serves you? I received a mailing from Comcast that most analog channels were being moved to digital starting in April. I live in north central Indiana. I think everything that is not in their basic package is being moved to digital and they are offering two free converter boxes if you need them.

I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa. which is not as bad as it sounds..
one good thing about this city is that there are 2 cable companies that are licensed to operate within the city. so depending on where you live you get to pick either Mediacom http://mediacomcable.com/index.php
or IMON http://www.imon.net/

Mediacom sucks but they are switching to all digital. but they are down converting their HD and sending it out in a lower def. in hopes that people will pay for the hi-def box.

I had Mediacom 10 years ago when I lived in Illinois and i swore i would never pay for their crappy product again, so when i moved here i took IMON, not knowing anything about them. i had been getting cbs,abc and pbs on clear Qam for the past year and pulling my NBC feed over the air along with standard def cable. i have 5 tuners in my backend.

so two summers ago, i was working for the school district when we got a call from IMON asking us if they could donate some network racks to us, and i got to go out to their headquarters and talk to the lead engineer. we got into a long conversation about mythtv and he was genuinely impressed and had no idea about it, i told him how important it was to keep the clear qam left on. he told me it was hard to balance things with the corporate guys who want to turn a profit and still keep the tinkerers like me happy.

so last month i got a letter from IMON that they were switching over their HiDef and making it standard with their basic cable for anyone with a built in tuner.
we get all of these channels now in HD, 24 channels of clear QAM..... i am still giggling. i pay $50.98 per month for 67+19 standard def channels plus the 24 DH channels.

I also pay for my internet service which is available in 4 configurations. i get their cheapest bundle 1M down / 512k up for 32$. i thought 1M would be too slow, but i play Team fortress 2 with an average of 32ms in latency and i use tomato on my router for the QOS. i can usually watch 1 maybe 2 youtube videos without any buffering needed.

all i can say is thank goodness i have competition in my city !!!
