I don't know how the gadget geek crowd can just overlook this cuz it's "just cool".

It's the mind control chip that is installed in every Apple fanatic. I'm sorry Pat. Its too late. We can't help them.

Sure! The glossy screen is just what you need to read books outside! Sheesh.... What wrong with electronic ink?

For crying out loud.

Just remember, the nibble on the apple logo is representative of the frontal lobotomy that all apple fanatics must go through.

I have actually seen comments that a $499 iPad will be a Kindle Killer (which sells for $259). Go figure.
Linux Mint 9 Gnome, Ubuntu 8.10 Easy Peasy , Open Suse, Windows XP PRO and others.

and doesn't the kindle come with some sort of free connectivity to download stuff? from what i hear on the iPad you have to lock in to, yet another, cell phone type plan.

i don't know, none of these devices really interest me. i'll use my cell to make calls, for the net i use my netbook. and for reading, i'll stick with a BOOK.

guess i'm just turning into an old curmudgeon. "damn you young'ins and your fancy technology!" ;)

EDIT: and really... is anything 100% unhackable? makes me want to get a iPad just for spite! i'll subject it to my tests. LOL

3g will not be necessary to download content to the iPad. There will be two versions - wifi only and wifi + 3g. 3G data plans will be available without a contract.

The Kindle comes with Whispernet. 3g from Sprint. It's great for downloading books, but more or less crap for the limited browsing on the Kindle.

I have to agree with NYBill. Nothing is unhackable. I've been too many hacker cons to buy that line.

Full Disclosure: I use Linux, FreeBSD, OS X. I have a Droid, used to have an iPhone, own an iPod touch and Sansa Clip and Kindle. No plans to buy an iPad.
