Favorite Multimedia Players?

I like to use XMMS for audio, Xine with the GTK frontend for video/DVDs, and MPlayer for the occasional H.264 file that Xine doesn't like. What about you guys?

I use beep media player instead or xmms because it was unstable for me and VLC and MPlayer for movies and Ill sometimes have amarok playing my music collection all day

Kaffeine, is IMO, hands-down, the best video player on *any* OS. Not great for screenshots, but excellent at playing movies, and it behaves like I *want* a player to behave. I never really liked the mplayer-style window + controls format.

I'm using amaroK for audio right now. It's got some features I don't need, and doesn't have some that I want, but it works at this point -- the more recent builds have fixed various freezing issues I had. As long as I turn off scrobbler (or whatever it's being called now) and don't fool around with the smart playlists, I can play music all day. For kubuntu, the kubuntu.org site has 1.3.5 debs. Arch has 1.3.6 by default.

However, I really like Quod Libet also. In fact, I think it's probably my favorite linux music player. I just really, really dislike how gtk stuff looks under KDE, so I'm not using it. Also, it doesn't have a "small player" option (it does, but it's dookie), and its progress bar is kind of bizarre.

I'm a big fan of winamp - would be nice if they could do a version for linux....linamp perhaps?....

My main reason for this is that it can play the online radio stations (streaming mp3 - .pls) from shoutcast - can any others do this?

I like VLC, Kaffeine, Xine, XMMS. VLC basically handles every codec you can throw at it.

I've tried VLC, and I found it to be pretty buggy. H.264 files caused it to crash, and every FLAC file I tried playing gave me a loud buzz throughout the whole song. It's unfortunate, because VLC would be my perfect media player if it didn't choke on those kind of files.

I use the MPlayer frontend called KPlayer for almost every kind of video files, but there are the times when the MPlayer engine doesn't like something, so in those cases I use Kaffeine. For audio files I mostly use Beep Media Player, but I do use XMMS to listen to TLLTS because for some reason, Beep doesn't like streams.

When I wanna watch my hentai DVDs I use the commandline MPlayer because I can't find a GUI that will let me choose between multiple audio channels, which in this case is used for selecting languages

Yup, Kaffeine serves me pretty good. It's usually Kaffeine or XMMS for me.
