Most distros support this including the Debian based system. Slackware doesn't, I'm sure there are others. This is good for the programs you compile yourself. On my Arch system, qtdesigner didn't have a menu listing by default. The auto menu updater picked it up and generated it. Nice touch!
Cool, another thing I like is the enhancements to kicker's desktop pager applet, so you can drag and drop windows from one desktop to another, that's really neat when you use Firefox and Konqueror at the same time for your morning news reading

I really don't get what people say about KDE and bloast, and come on, if you blame KDE for using too much RAM, buy some more for crying out loud! :P
I think I kind of said that in my post

As for the "nazi" stuff, I believe it has a new meaning now, not related to the original nazi's just like how hackers used to mean smart people who find how things work instead of evil people who steal credit cards.

Anyways on the KDE vs Gnome I think both are very mature desktop environments and both have advantages however I see the Gnome DE unwilling to change which a bad thing in my opinion. That is one of the reasons why I like KDE. They are always innovating. KDE4 is going to be the best GUI Manager (or Desktop Environment or whatever you call it ;-) ) no matter what Steve Jobs or Bill Gates says

I certainly prefer GNOME over Windows, give me Linux/FreeBSD or give me death! :P

I agree with you on the innovation part, the KDE folks is absoluteley more willing to change in order to innovate, for example, rather than building on top of SuperKaramba, they just take the concept and will build Plasma!

I think that applets on the desktop can be very useful, I'd like sure like an RSS reader intergrated into my desktop, or a simple podcasting client, or even better a BitTorrent client :P

Screw Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, in contrast to proprietary operating systems, the KDE guys doesn't have to push KDE4 out within a deadline, they take their time and make sure stuff like Xorg and hal are ready before they actually release KDE4. I really like this, for example I think that the next-gen enhancements to Xorg is critical to KDE4 which I so far consider a next-gen desktop. 8) :D

I like GNOME, personally. It feels less Windows-like than KDE, and I can easily customize everything to my liking quicker and easier than doing it in KDE. I also find GNOME to be much more functional than that bloated, kitchen sink and more, mess that is KDE. I'll admit KDE is slightly faster than GNOME, but when it takes me 20 minutes to sift through 15 different menus to get something done, it really doesn't matter. I also prefer GTK, and almost every GNOME application to their KDE equivalent.

Firefox, Nautilus > Konqueror
Thunderbird/Evolution > Kmail
GnomeBaker > K3b
Gaim > Kopete
Rhythmbox > AmaroK
OpenOffice, Abiword > Koffice
Azureus > Ktorrent

etc, etc.

they do use gnome so they don't have to pay the license from trolltech.

whether bad or good it is what it is

You know what needs to be done? Someone needs to write a middle layer between GTK and Qt so that ISVs can write their programs for one libary and it can intergrate smoothly into both KDE and GNOME.

I believe KDE4 is supposed to have a project doing just that. So you won't be able to tell a GTK program from a Qt or KDE program without looking at the source code.

That would just be the best thing since pizza and cola was invented, because I hate having that one super important app, that just don't intergrate and fit smoothly together with the rest of my desktop. For instance I have Azureus and CastPodder open all the time, because my computer is basicly my source for everything: News, radio, TV, mail, telephony, music and videos.

I'd just love to have those fit smoothly in with Konqueror or other stuff.

Which is also another compelling reason to use Linux or BSD, if you have so much depending on your computer, it just needs to work and work forever (Not litterally, but just as a sentence of power).
