Arrrg! GTK Pod is a piece of junk

I'm temped to just chuck my iPod against the wall, and buy another MP3 player. Linux is my only operating system, and trying to manage my iPod with GTK Pod is a total pain in the ass. For one, Half the time I wanna add some new files to my iPod, GTK Pod freezes up on me, and I have to kill it. I have to add one file at a time, and sync after every file I add, or it won't respond. I can't plug my iPod into my Firewire port more than once every couple of days, otherwise, it just charges in sleep mode, and refuses to be recognized as a storage device. Why can't Apple just give us iTunes, so I don't have to deal with this crap? Maybe I'll attemp to put iPodlinux on it.

Dude I use sharpmusique when I rarely buy music from Itunes. DRM removed courtesy of DVD Jon & Co:

Coded up a script to convert it to an ogg after downloading it.

The Iaudio5 I have is going for $89 at newegg:

The 1 & 2 gig models are obviously more.

They mount as a usb thumbdrive. Drag and drop. Nice & simple.

Patrick I think he's talking about syncing music and I don't think Sharpmusique does that. I think Amarok might sync, not sure though.

I was offerning a fall back plan if he does throw his Ipod against the wall!

Do you know what the minimum bitrate for MP3, and Oggs are for that iAudio?

MPEG 1/2/2.5 layer 3 (8Kbps ~ 320Kbps) (8kHz ~ 48kHz) and VBR

Yeah it plays basically any OGG file perfectly and with some of eq settings and other features it sounds better than on my computer

That's good to know. It would be nice to not have to download the MP3 just for use on my iPod. On a related note, I noticed the torrent of episode 114 has a raw MP3 in it. I'm assuming thats the full episode with the Ogg extras. Is that something we'll get from now on, only for the BitTorrent users?

I like the idea of the torrent. It'd be great if we could get 20-30 people always leaving the torrent up for the latest show.

I don't have the same problems you have with gtkpod, in fact I find it quite useful. The problem I do have is that once I mount the device under linux, there is a greater chance that the next time it will not mount and I have to mount it in OS X before it is useable in Linux again.

I think this is because my iPod is over a year old and hitting the wall fast.

Not sure what is in that to be honest. Dann put the media files up there, I put up the chatlog and then made a bittorrent out of everything with the epi# that was available

You created the torrent file. You're the torrent man! Seriously though I think we should continue to do the torrent thing. If we can get our regular mirrors plus a few other people to leave their torrent client running all week I think we can make this a regular thing.

I'll be happy to host some of those files for a while -- I have a T1, but I'm not sure how long I'm going to be in my current "situation." I'd imagine a few more months at least -- then my next Little Guy is arriving, so all bets are off.
