Would any of us educated computer users expect anything more (or less) from Microsoft and their products?

I saw Bill Gates on MSMBC last night and it was even worse. Is Vista even going to come out in 06?

Also, I still don't get the parental controls that M$ is going to put out. Since everyone runs as Admiin, the kids will just shut it down on their own I guess.

Of course it is, they will just slice a few more major features (Security?) and put out a crappy operating system pay all kinds of analyst firms a billion to brainwash people to believe Windows is surperior and say "Don't go with that Linux and FreeBFD stuff, buy Windows".

Yeah I say the same thing, kids are a lot more savy than they are given credit for, when I was 10 years old, I knew more about computers than the IT admin at the school I was at. A lot of kids are also very good at googling, so they'll just google a way to crack that parental control crap, or hopefully, just boot Linux and run it that way.

If you've ever seen Steve Jobs pitch a new version of OS X, you'll know Apple has been doing this kind of thing for years. They take a bunch of cool new stuff other people have already invented, build it into their OS, and hype it as if it were their own idea. The only difference is Apple do actually add some of their own innovations sometimes, and Jobs is really good at getting people excited about the same old crap.

Bill Gates just can't drum up that kind of excitement. I almost feel bad for Microsoft.

Any user can have admin privileges removed in XP. I don't have administrator access on my machine at work, for instance. I'm sure Vista will have the same capability. Just password the admin account, create accounts for the kids with limited privileges, and you're all locked up.

Sounds kinda like some of the nazi propaganda from 1939, for example, after WWI the germans were totally crushed, and didn't like war, and then Hitler managed to get them all excited about that shit again.

I'm not saying either Bill Gates or Steve Jobs are anything close to Hitler, or Stalin for that matter, but the ways their businesses work is kind of similar to what the nazis and the sovients did. Look at Apple for example, with them you don't have a free press, for gods sake Apple sues Blogger for promoting them by distributing hype about future stuff coming from Apple, sounds kinda like what the soviet government did if someone wrote a single negative word about communism in a russian newspaper.

Well, then the kids just go download a copy of WHAX and gives the hidden guest account admin privileges and then they're in business.

IMHO I think Apple is good on hyping people and on looks while Microsoft is good on locking people in and using the legal system to their advantage. Linux is good for everything else
