Novell to include mp3 support and other multimedia functions

I actually look forward to see Novell's next round of enterprise products, what they've been doing with SUSE lately is very nice, sadly Novell's market is business users and not end users.

It's nice that Banshee is being developed. Is it available yet for other distros? Ah yes, there it is in the pacman respository.

Anyway, on to F-Spot. I take issue with their comments. I've never used it, and maybe I am wrong in equating the same functionality that f-spot has, but Digikam has a flickr export plugin. GThumb does not seem to have this, although there is th kflickr tool for uploading. I digress....

I tried fspot in the past, I still think gThumb and digikam are a lot better. Why could they not just improve gThumb instead of going off and creating fspot? All for mono, all for mono.

Let me tell ya one thing Dann, amaroK beats the snot out of Banshee, it does so much more in a better way, can use more backend engines, Wikipedia lookups... but you know, amaroK is for that KDE desktop which businesses doesn't like right?

Okay right off the bat, digiKam is a KDE application and doesn't integrate into the GNOME desktop, and I think Novell Linux Desktop is a GNOME-centric distribution. I'm not as up to speed regarding the development of GNOME as I am of KDE (One of the reasons is that I don't like using GNOME, that Nautilus file manger frustrates the hell out of me) but I heard that the GNOME guys is integrating Mono more and more into GNOME as a prefered development platform (Which could be dangerous since .NET is largely something Microsoft came up with and could have a lot of patents covering it).

How is banshee's iPod support? I recently tried moving my iPod over to my linux box, and was not at all happy with the current state of UI for ipod support - the backend seems to work quite well (well, as long as you're using USB and not firewire).

I'm using Firewire, and GTK Pod is pretty flakey. That must be why. It's given me such a headache, I've completely given up on trying to sync it.

I honestly found the UI for gtkpod bad enough that I simply didn't want to use it.

It's not exactly attractive, that's for sure, I hope KDE 4.0 will introduce some very easy to use, bomb-proof, iPod syncing features, because I just find the current ones either very frustrating to use, slow, buggy or sometimes it just made a mess on my iPod.

My main problem with it was that it was way, way, way too easy to destroy my local music files. Other than that, I found the layout confusing. I've also heard from several people who use it regularly and eventually end up with massive database corruption on their ipods, which requires a reformat.

I was (am) really interested in the neuros, but I've also read several negative comments re their linux support. It's a shame is this is the case since it appears to be exactly what I'd want from a player (don't need radio, but I don't really care it's there either).

I got my sister to use amarok and is great, the backend is real cool except for the lyric back end, they either stupid or just we don't know how to commit lyrics to their database they just simply say, thanks we'll review it and off it goes to never be seen again.

We need a wiki-pedia lyric repository.
