Apple moving to Windows?

On episode 41 of TWIT, John C. Dvorak says that Apple plans on moving to Windows (Vista probably), and OS X will be given to the open source community. With Adobe revealing that their products won't be available for OS X86 until 2007, it makes you wonder what Apple plans on doing. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if they adopted Windows. Seems like part of the reason they got away from PPC, and with Vista due out later this year or early next year, everything could fall right in place. I believe Dvorak has a PC Mag article coming up which goes into more detail.

John is known for his brilliant bullshit. He said that if gimp have it going then Linux would be mainstream.

It's a possibility. Apple is a hardware company first and foremost, and having Windows available on the new Intel chips would be very tempting for alot of current Windows PC users. Obviously they wont abandon OS X completely, but remember, 90% of the desktop market uses Windows. I'm sure Apple wouldn't mind tapping into that userbase. Maybe Dvorak is full of sh.i.t, but I think it's a real possibility.

Have u ever met steve jobs. Remember is HIS logic is not a conventional one. So not because u see a 2 and another 2 will it make 4 if u put them together. I really see Johns point WAY too simplistic.

For the sake of Linux I hope Apple and Microsoft never team up and I doubt they ever will.

If OS X ever went free and open source, similar to OpenSolaris, what do you think that would mean for Linux? Imagine if any Linux distro could adopt Aqua and Cocoa.

First of all that would never happen, they may use FLOSS but they wouldn't never make FLOSS. Also I'm not a fan of the steel and jelly beans but w/e.

Sun open sourced Solaris as a way to fight Linux and Windows, I don't think they did it because they wanted to. Solaris' market share was decreasing, and Linux was eating a lot of it, and then Sun was pushed against the wall with no where else to go from my point of view. Apple has enough market share that they don't need to open source OS X, and why would they do that? Why would they even adopt Windows when they already have a relatively decent operating system, not that I would use it though, and there's like a cult behind the Macintosh, for example the thing about having a menu in the top of the screen, the dock, one button mouse and in general how things work. This seems very non-logical to me, why would Apple adopt Windows when they don't need to, and by the way, they can still sell the prosumers the PowerPC products, and they will continue to use those for a while, also consumers can go ahead and buy their Intel products, because they don't need Photoshop and stuff like that.

I just listened to the episode a few minutes ago. John Was quoting from an upcoming PC magazine article. His exact words are:

I'm not predicting this, I'm just suggesting it's possible, that Apple may just drop OS X and go with Windows.

Apparently someone gave him a line of reasoning he thought was interesting and he wrote a column on it.

The idea of open sourcing OS X was Leo Laporte's, and was just a suggestion. So this is all just speculation at best.
