iPod, what a piece of crap
I've had a 4th generation 40gb iPod for exactly 1 year now, and the thing just took a sh!t on me. I was listening to a podcast at work, paused it, it went into sleep mode like usual, and now it's completely dead. I've tried plugging it into the wall, syncing it with GTK Pod, and pressing all the buttons, and it refuses to do anything. It's been acting flakey for quite some time; sometimes it'll pause for no reason even when I have the hold switch on, and other times it'll just shut off. I'll probably crack it open and see if I can repair it, but what pisses me off even more, is that its been in a nice plastic case since I bought it, the iPod doesn't have a single scratch on it, and the battery is still at full capacity. Screw Apple.

I had the same thing happen to mine twice. The first time it just locked up in the middle of a podcast and the other time it just died like you described. Both times I was able to correct it by leaving it disconnected until the battery ran down and then recharging it from the AC adapter. It worked perfectly for me both times. I agree that it's aggravating as hell. I've gotten to where I just use my RIO that plays MP3 files burned to a CD more than my iPod.

they are crap
I know two people who bought them and both have died with in the first two years.
apple's response is just go by another one -
they are throw away items at not throw away prices. hey but they look cool.
one of these days when I have the time and money I am going to buy what pat bought from new egg - but I just don't see a media player as a big priority item for me right now. i would rather just download them to my usb stick and play them when I am working at my computer. my liftestyle just doesn't call for a lot of mobile mp3 playing.
I will always buy one that plays ogg format - I should not have to be paying twice for all the dam mpg patents. - If I sat down and figured it out I would probably be paying more than twice.

^A lot of those definitions are hilarious. Appearently you're not the only one who hates iPods. (NOTE: they are offensive to iPod owners so if you are sensitive to that stuff *don't* click on it)
I'm glad I have my iAudio X5L although the harddrive gets stuck or something and I have to flick it or move it to get it to go again but that seems to be happening to just me (according to the iaudiophile.net forums) so Im going to send it back soon for a new/fixed one.

The only "Superior Apple Product" I own is a generation 2 Ipod 15 gig. The one with the four buttons. I can't say anything bad about it because I listen to it at least 10 hours a day at the shop. (either that or listen to the machine rumble). It has only died once and I had to reset by pressing all four buttons for 20 seconds.
I would not have bought it myself because I have heard a lot of people I know have problems with theirs, but it was a gift from mom. I guess some of them are crap and some last. More often than not, crap.

I'll never want a portable music player because I prefer to pay attention to my surrounding when I'm outside.
I live/work in a college town, and you wouldn't believe how many hippies walk around alone, at night, advertising their $300 device with their stupid ear pieces. You could make a decent living mugging them and selling the loot on ebay.

I rarely use it when Im walking around (though I don't walk that much or that far) but its usefull when Im bored somewhere I can whip it out and listen to some tunes or watch a movie or something. I also carry it around because I have PortableFirefox and PortableGaim on it and you never know when you will need a portable harddrive handythetza wrote:I'll never want a portable music player because I prefer to pay attention to my surrounding when I'm outside.
