Googling your PC... eyes are watching

Post by Judland » Mon Feb 13, 2006 12:18 am

Interesting article about a new Google toolbar for your PC (well, I don't know if it's available for Linux yet. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd want it anyway.

I've heard comments and read posts by people here warning that Google is becoming the Microsoft of Internet technology. I'm starting to think it's coming to that.

Google had better watch their step and who they're climbing into bed with.... Seems to me that they're on a very slippery slope.

I think there is a complot against google. Everyone was a piece of it, is this some M$ strategy out of Ballmer rage???

But I can see the pre-fabricated rumors builded by M$ having an impact on a private company.

I think this also happened with Java VM and Netscape in the past.

bad news

In fairness, Google does acknowledge that the tool involves a trade off between functionality and security.
this kind of thinking really has to stop. all these companies want to make the internet and the desktop seamless. just ain't gonna happen without giving way to the above statement.

the PC is still the PERSONAL computer - I can find my docs just fine thanks -

I personally think all this search technology stuff is overblown -

Windows people install stupid stuff on their computer that invades their privacy. Is this news?

I can live the rest of my life without a Google desktop search. :D

;no it's not. this is not new folks.

;the register is just a bunch of scaremongers. do what the rest of us learned to do with them a long time ago: ignore them.
