Tech Show Ideas?

Do any of you listeners out there have any ideas or suggestions about topics you would like to hear us talk about on the Tech Show?

How about another all Conan episode? Or maybe an all Godzilla this time around?

Hey, Dudes!

If this idea has come up in other shows, I'll apologies now, for I haven't listened to all of the shows yet.

However, what do you think if the idea of a weekly segment reviewing/informing us on new (or old) Linux-friendly peripherals for our Linux boxes?

Example clippet:
"Recently I just saw (or tried) HP's latest X123 All-in-one printer and was really easy to set-up on my Linux box running (insert distro name here)." Then go on to a review of the product here, with comments from the rest of the gang, of course.

Maybe people would have fewer hardware compatibility problems if they knew what hardware works well with Linux.

Just a thought.

And a good one at that. We do occasionally remark about hardware as we come across it, but probably haven't made it much of a focus. There is no reason we couldn't draw more attention to what works for us and what doesn't

I agree that this would be an excellent topic. The only drawback, though, is that over the course of a year I probably on get one or maybe two peripherals for my workstations. We'd have to call upon Lug members and listeners for reviews. At which point that hybrid is looking more important.

I'd be happy to contribute, even though I don't go through many different computer components myself (ah the stability of Linux, eh?).

Although my writing isn't all that professional, I would still be happy to tell you what hardware I've tried and use. I'm sure you would be able to make something interesting and useful out of it

Wouldn't it be nice if the show could grow in such popularity that manufactures would actually go out of their way to GIVE you stuff to try!

How about app of the week. Pick one application and go through it in detail. What it does. How usable is it. Would you recommend it to anyone else?

I like the app of the week idea. We semi-started that last week with hydrogen which I hope to follow up on this week.

Send us your ideas for applications and we will give them the old techshow tryout.

I downloaded and installed your Slack package and it works fine. I downloaded and imported all the different drum kits. They all work fine with the exception of the acoustickit. The program can't find some sort of xml tag. Have you had this problem? I'll take a look at the Hydrogen mailing list to see if anyone had the same issue. The program is pretty cool. It supposedly works well with ardour. I'll play around with it.

If by acoustic kit you mean ultracoustic, yeah I have problems with that one. It segfaults on me. So I just haven't used it.

I'd like to get the new one working. Maybe I will try compiling it on my slack 9.1 laptop, perhaps it is an issue with current.

Someone on the hydrogen mailing list reported the same exact problem for the compile of the program that we both had.

I wonder if any of you would be interested in supporting the Tech Show vocally?
If you would like to hear yourself *on air*, please send us an audio file of you saying something like

"Hi, My name is (your name) and I listen to The Linux Link Tech Show!"

Or something of the kind. I'd be happy to stick it on the show. It'd be nice to hear some of your voices and it's help promote the show as well!

I just found out about this app:

This will supposedly let you run OSX in linux on x86!!
This is an alpha release but definitely a step in the right direction.
