I don't know what they did, but after updating this evening I noticed a very significant speed increase in the xorg server. Sweet!

It looks like they jumped another release of xorg. Hopefully they've worked out all the bugs. I haven't upgraded my workstation yet. Will probably get to it something this week. You're running with the nvidia driver right?

Because arch has been very unstable recently? Upgrading last night killed X for about 5 min. For some reason there were still a bunch of old libs around where the old xorg would have looked for them prior to xorg7, and nvidia was barfing on them. I moved that directory, and all was good. Not hard to fix, but not a problem that I would expect to have to deal with when everything I'm upgrading is handled by the package manager.

I just upgraded and it was definitely a better experience than my laptop. One little quirk I found while running tuxracer is that it's choppy for about 15 seconds and then runs fine. I'm running the nvidia driver. Maybe I forgot to change something in my xorg.conf file. I'll see what I can find. The system definitely seems quicker. Lesson learned is wait a bit anytime there's a major upgrade to a key system component. I noticed the latest version of OO was upgraded.

My system had recently started experiencing choppy OpenGL performance. It was so bad that Unreal Tournament 2004 became unplayable. I downgraded the nvidia driver package to version 1.0.8178-13 and now UT2004 plays fine again.

It took a while for me to find an older version of the nvidia driver package so here is a link to it.
