ISO burning tool for Windows

Hey everyone-

I am going to discuss burning Linux ISO's in my next Linux Reality episode and I was wondering if the TLLTS community could give me some pointers on free ISO burning apps for Windows. It's been so long since I've burned an ISO in Windows that I don't know what's out there.

One option I found is this:

ISO recorder is probably the simpliest you can get, or just get a 30-day trial copy of Nero and burn away, or if people already have Nero they should look for "Burn image" or "Image burning".

It's pretty sad that Windows can't burn standard ISO images out of the box. Just about every Linux distro out there comes with commandline tools for burning ISOs by default.

It's pretty weak if you ask me, yet another reason why Windows suck

They might have this in Vista, unless of course they pull it out before release

I don't think it's likely that a Windows machine would have a burner and not have burning software. Most pre-built PCs have something like Nero installed. If you buy a CDRW drive, it comes with Windows burning software.

I've seen lists on the web that show how to burn ISO images in various popular Windows burning programs. It might be useful to explain what an ISO is, and give walkthroughs for burning on some of the most popular software.

This is definitely a common newbie hurdle. I've seen many, many "I've got the ISO images, now what do I do" messages on the Fedora mailing list.

I had to recently burn an ISO on windows. I downloaded a free 30-day trial of Alcohol 120% which is more than enough time to burn the image and get the heck outta there (Windows machines scare me)

Thanks for all the replies, guys. And to Gomer_X's point, yes, you are definitely right about the burning of ISO's being a common issue. In fact, as I was doing this week's episode of Linux Reality, I was originally planning to discuss ISOs, how to download them, how to burn them, etc. all in 1 episode but there was too much to cover in 1 episode. So, this week I'll just discuss ISOs in general -- what are they, where to buy them, where to download them etc. Next week I'll get into the topic of burning ISO's to blank CD-R's.

These ideas have been really helpful -- thanks everyone.
