GParted LiveCD for partitioning

This looks interesting: a live CD with gparted for partitioning your drives. Includes fat/ntfs/hfs+ and all the linux filesystems. Looks pretty cool, but I have not tried it yet.

A useful tool for shrinking down windoze partitions when doing a dual boot setup. Perfect for converting people over to linux. Their win partition is "still there" so they "feel" a little easier about the whole linux thing.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. I know some live CD's and some distros include gparted or qtparted or whatever but some don't (I don't believe Ubuntu, for example, can resize windows partitions during install -- but I may be mistaken about that; it's been while since I installed Ubuntu). This is a nice tool for the toolbox. Sort of like a free PartitionMagic.

I've had enough breakage with Partition Magic and parted that I'm paranoid.

I've got enough machines around with free disc space that I back up (over the LAN), repartition, and restore.

I'll try parted again one of these days, but for now I'm not risking losing a system.

SUSE and Mandriva both can do the resize thing during the install, SUSE's YaST installer will actually do it without asking the user about anything, so it's very transperant, of course it gives the user the option to change how it's going to be done.

Yeah, that's my way of life as well, why spend time coming up with fancy flashy ways of resizing crap when the old fashion way always works.
