Who ever said MS was easier to administer than Linux?

Take a look at this procedure to fix a recent problem that the latest Microsoft patch has generated for HP software users:

The part that I'd like to bring attention to is the suggested resolution, a little ways down the page.

Not only do they send unsuspecting users into the registry, but they want them to type in a line like this:

You tellin' me that Mom and Pop are going to be willing to do this to fix the software Microsoft broke on them? What happens if they don't enter this string of numbers correctly?

Now, I know for us users who tinker with distros., like Arch, need to do recovery techniques similar to this sometimes... but I thought MS-Windows was supposed to be easier than Linux to use.

And this fix isn't neccessary to do because some MS user thought he'd try a beta version of another MS based distro. This is a result of doing upgrades MS "recommends" (ie: forces) it's users to do.

If I were an "average" MS user, I'd find this sort of fix just as daunting any thing you'd have to do under Linux.

at least our reovery techniques have a closer resemble to english.

this goes for installation too - anybody that says windows is easier to install is full of it and never installed linux.

I dare anybody to do a test of hardware that is both supported in linux and windows and do an install of each on the box and see what is easier. I did this one time and linux took 30 to 40 minutes and I had a fully patched ready to use desktop. took over six hours for windows because nothing comes with windows and you have to download unsigned crap drivers (even hardware that was on the HCL from microsoft themselves) from the internet just to get a functional desktop. then you have to go get an office suite etc etc I won't go on but I think I made my point.
