Arch/Ubuntu Dapper

Post by doublejoon » Wed Apr 19, 2006 12:40 pm

Well I shrunk down my Arch laptop partition to make room and try out Ubuntu "Dapper".
I am amazed how much faster it is now (just a tad slower booting than Arch) and the fact that it detected my onboard Broadcom wireless and my pcmcia Belkin F5D7010 Wireless card (Atheros Chipset). Good job Mark and friends!

Also for some strange reason I get 20-30 min longer battery life while in Ubuntu as opposed to Arch. I will play with it some more and try to figure it out...

Just my 2 Cents

I used this small livecd to resize pretty slick http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

Thanks Chess!

Chances are that Ubuntu has better support for ACPI, and thus the power management features of your laptop.
