I'll keep that in mind as I explore a bit. I will say this though, I really notice the difference between Sackware and Ubuntu using KDE. Not that there wasn't a difference before but I was using 2 different GUI's. Now I am using the same kde on both types of Linux and kde+slackware@1ghz has few dificulties keeping up with kde+Ubuntu@3ghz.
All the more reason to zap Ubuntu install and put Slack back. We need some of the old die hards like you, Linc, to stick with Slack so that we have updates on good things from Patrick's world. I have to say that there has been so much, "Under Ubuntu I did this, and in ubuntu you just do this," that TLLTS is starting to sound like that Englishmen Ubuntu love fest that comes out every other week. We have enough guys pimping Ubuntu (LUGRadio, LottaLinux Links, Dann on PPC, Pat on his Laptop), we need 100% Slack guys. We all know that we have the ultimate pimp for SUSE so they need no other voices.
I guess first impressions are different for everyone, but I just don't get the excitement over Ubuntu. I don't get the sudo thing, which I know you can do something to solve, but others have said that adding a root user still doesn't make the system act exactly like a Slack or Debian install. Ubuntu can't figure out my graphics, x always gets set up wrong which I have learned to fix manually in Slack so it is no problem, but I would expect for all their praise that they could have the hardware detection of Knoppix which works in all of my machines without a hitch. I found their xubuntu for low resource machines slllooowww. I have used and enjoyed my experience with Simply Mepis, Kanotix, and Slackware, but I will say that I need to spend more time with my Slackware box so that I further my understanding. I still don't have it set up to update, and I don't know if keeping even with "Current" is even a good idea since it might be similar to my Kanotix and Debian Unstable experience over the last year. I have decided that I don't need to be on the bleeding edge.
I'm planning a Fedora Core 5 install on my home machine after I upgrade the Ram and Video Card. That is my fastest machine so I want to have something which should be easy to find help in my LUG and on the internet. I also want one system that I don't have to compile things that are new like I need to do in Slackware.
