5 Minute Linux Tutorials

Started working on a new idea... 5 Minute Tutorials.

The idea is to make short, easy to follow tutorials on how to do little (yet helpful) things with your Linux desktop software; keeping the running time of each demo. under five minutes.

I've only got two tutorials creates so far, but I'm hoping to have time to do more real soon.

Feel free to peek in and tell me what you think.

Judland, this is a totally awesome idea, you need to make a video podcast RSS feed for the thing, so people can get demos right in the akregator (Pun intended).

Same idea, I think, but different content.

I'm trying to target more of the novice Linux desktop/PC users. Actually, people like the ones who are starting to attend the LUG I set up at the office I work at.

Also, I hate the sound of my voice, so I'm more comfortable with graphic demos, rather than audio ones.

for somethings videos are more helpful then audio. Imagine explaining how to create a detailed 3d model with blender on TWAT

A lot of the time both can work just as good, but hey more content! can't argue with that

Well, I would say that this would still fit. A geek is a geek, but not all geeks know linux or even vice versa. A simple mac, linux or even WINDOWS usage podcast would fit perfectly.

I'll leave those topics up to you.

However, ifi I do more tutorials on software like OpenOffice in the future (which is cross platform compatible) then those poor unfortunates using Mac and Windows can benfit as well.

Well Ill pass on the mac since I have nothing to prepare with regards to being accurate. To me a computer is a computer and a car is a car. If it breaks then I get pissed. Linux rarely breaks, windows does religiously. Hence this affiliation.

But you know what I mean. The idea was simple, and so is yours. In fact perhaps we can rally more support for some FLOSS orientated casts for TWAT. I mean no disrespect, but lame Firefox hacks are not what I envisioned we would end up hearing by ep 130. I think by now most of us a professional enough that OO.o Calc tricks are like a few free beers, always welcome and appreciated.

No disrespect to the OP, just figured why replicate efforts when not needed, and entertain a much broader audience.

Speaking of OpenOffice tips, that is what I was going to work on this weekend... making a couple more vids for the website on how to do some things with the OpenOffice suite.

Added a new tutorial to the site.... this one covers the conditional formatting tool in OpenOffice Calc.
