Kano, the developer of Kanotix, posted the OS's latest release today.... 2005-02. I've been using it for a couple of days already. I must say, this is desktop computing at it's best.
KDE is really getting it's act together. 3.4 is really nice. I find that it's response is much improved over 3.3.x
A few other things about Kanotix is that, if you have Nvidia or ATI graphics cards, you no longer require kernel source packages to compile support drivers. Which means, even in "live CD" mode, you can configure 3D support for your video cards (well, at least I could for my Nvidia card).
I was going to give Kubuntu a go (just because I wanted to try out KDE 3.4), but don't need to now. I really can't see a distribution being better than Kanotix at this point.

Yep it's a a great distro. I've been using it for a while. Having just installed the official Ubuntu Hoary release I have to say that I like a Kanotix a lot better. Ubuntu is still quite young. I think that eventually it will get a lot better but the default install is just not as streamlined as Kanotix.
Kanno has a lot of nice little scripts to automate things as well. Did you notice that the new Kanotix live cd is using onionfs? With onionfs you can now do things like add to your sources.list while booted from the live cd and apt-get anything from any of the Debian repositories on the fly. You can even save your changes to an exteral hard drive (or a flash drive if it's big enough).
Over all Kanotix is a great distro that builds on Knoppix and adds a lot of extra stuff.

I did notice that I was able to apt-get on the fly with the live CD... didn't know it was because of a thing called onionfs. I was impressed with how simple the set-up for my Nvidia card was... even using the Live CD! I ran one .sh script and it was done.
However, it wasn't too long before Kanotix was installed on my HD, so I didn't work much with the Live CD, itself.
I do agree that Kano really has done some nice and ground breaking work. I've been a Kanotix user for over 6 months now. I'm very pleased with this distro. It's really thought out well. AND it's fully Debian/Sid cross-compatible. It's one of Kano's rules, I think.
