I say Linux will gain wide desktop usage when it's freakin ready. I don't care whether some think it is ready now or not, it will gain more usage everyday, and it is going to keep progressing no matter what happens. I also don't think everyone is going to wake up one day and realize "Shit, Linux is awesome" because of one event, it is going to take years to tear apart Microsoft's monopoly as well as beating Apple down so they don't take the thrown from Linux.

Well, in reality, I guess the Mac is, but it doens't get anywhere because of the Microsoft monopoly, and if it did, Linux wouldn't get anywhere because of the Apple monopoly

Exactly, Microsoft either have to fail hard, in order for Linux to capture 30 percent of the market "overnight", it's going to take a long time, but in some areas it will be faster than others, for example in developing countries.

Apple is against free speech and if they could they'd tear apart the first amendment. Their law suits against bloggers is evidence.

1) Virtual desktops on OS X will somehow consume 100MB+ of memory.
2) Most Apple users are not capable of understanding the concept of virtual desktops.
3) Those who are will claim that Jobs invented it and KDE/Gnome/everyotherfuckingWMforlinux are all copying Apple.

I like Leo. So what if he likes Apple. He still calls them out on their fud at times.
On numerous occasions he has stated that Apple is worse
than Micro$loth in regards to being closed, proprietary, and how bad their
DRM is.

Linux can still be a bear at times and the average computer user
would be lost in those situations. Leo is just stating that up front on his
call-in show. I don't think he really has an agenda to destroy the linux
community.

I like Leo as well. He's a good person who really loves what he does. I think what T was inferring is that Leo is not quite up to date on his Linux knowledge and sometimes passes out of date information. I have to agree. His Linux knowledge seems a bit stale. But hey he's mostly a Mac person and his radio and tv show caters to the Windows sheeple.

Sure he does that "at times", but to me it seems like he'd lick Steve Jobs' balls for "more Mac", whenever Apple says something, he throws whatever he has in his hands and runs to "apple.com" to see.

Sure he has, but I don't like people who speak with two tongues, it's like some muslim preasts we have here in Denmark when that whole issues of drawings of Mohammed in the danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten came up, when they were here in DK they told people how bad terrorism is, and then they went to thier home country and encouraged attacks on Copenhagen.
OK, I wanna emphasize here, I am in NO WAY comparing Leo to terrorist bastards, but it's just an example of people speaking with two tongues.
In just one of his shows, I've heard Leo say how bad Apple is at sueing bloggers (I consider that an attack on free speech), and 8 mins. later he's back to his usual Apple whoring like "Oh dump Windows, Mac is so much more secure and it'll do this so much better, you can do this and this" etc. etc.

I know he isn't, because Leo uses Linux heavily on his servers, I think he uses RHEL and by the way I know that digg runs on Debian (I'm sure Wally Balljacker is jumping up and down about that

BUT, I think when Leo mentions the issues Linux can have, he does in such a way that scare people off (I asked a good friend of mine about this, and he said that he'd be scared off, if he reads this and wants to respond, I will confirm his identity

) in fact, I was scared off myself a couple of years ago because of some stuff I heard on The Screen Savers, and then when I tried myself, it has no issue at all.
When he has talked about wireless issues, he has never once said "Just buy this card and you'll be fine" like I do. My stance on the WiFi issues is that I rather have a card not work, than have the drivers be poorly written and cause security issues, I know parts of the Madwifi drivers are proprietary, but that's really because FCC regulations don't allow them to be free software, of course the manufacturers could just put that stupid blob on the card itself as firmware.
And the most dangerous ("dangerous" in terms of scaring people off from Linux, aka spread FUD) thing is when Leo gives out mega-outdated he REALLY scare people off, see my example here for one I got particular shocked/pissed off about, because it's harder to do on Apple, and Leo talks all the time about how great bootcamp and Parallels (I won't even come close to endorsing these guys until they pull their head out of their ass and fix their damn software so that it'll work on newer kernels, Parallels still don't work on 2.6.16.* and SUSE has already jumped to 2.6.18rc4 in Alpha3 of 10.2!!! GO XEN!!!!) is.

You're completely right Pat, Leo's Linux knowledge is so outta date that it's painful to know people listen to and take advice from, see the example I linked to above, because that one really ticked me off.
Also, Leo knows NOTHING about the modern ways of installing software on Linux.

Fair enough, I'll change my mind when he starts recommending people who call in with spyware issues to just wipe out Windows and install Linux.

On the last episode of Twit Leo actually praised Ubuntu! But he then went on to bash Gimp (as unusable) and OpenOffice (along with Dvorak). Robert Herron who was gushing about Vista actually said that most modern Linux distros are easier to install than MS products.

Yeah, Robert Herron and Patrick Norton have been covering Linux on
DL.TV. Several episodes ago, Herron installed SUSE 10 on his computer and
was raving about how much he liked it. And on the last episode, they tried to
install Ubuntu on one of Patrick's laptops because a viewer wanted them too.
(Although, there seemed to be a glitch towards the end..

)

Actually, I like DL.TV because they cover everything..

On a recent episode of KFI Tech Guy, a guy calls in asking if there is an MP3 player that will resume playing a selection where it stopped when you turned it off......Leo says "Yeah, it's called an IPOD". The guy didn't seem real enthused, Leo continues..."there may be others, but to tell you the truth, I haven't tried another player for the last two years"

1) My POS $30.00 Taiwanese player resumes from where I stop it.
2) He's the "Tech Guy" and hasn't tried any player other than Apple's for two
years?
3) I like Leo, he's just apparently priviledged. I mean it's not like he forgot where
he came from, I don't think he was ever from there. Otherwise he wouldn't be
pushing 1500.00 Apple desktops to Old Ladies who call in and just wanna
get an Email from their Grandson in Iraq. Doesn't Leo know these women
are on a fixed income! What good is that slick computer gonna do when
they're laying on the kitchen floor 'cause they couldn't afford their meds?
Who'll help 'em then?.. Mr. LaApple????
4) Seriously I can't help but love the guy, and I've never paid a cent for the
hours of entertainment and info....so I don't know how he supports his bad
Apple habit.
