Marked as read???

Post by chuck » Mon Aug 21, 2006 7:10 pm

This has been happening for about two weeks or so. I'll click next to a topic to read the new messages. I go back to the threads and click for the new messages in the next topic only to be greetings with 'No new posts since your last visit'.

At first I thought it a temporary thing so I didnt' say anything. But after different machines and time has continued and the problem is not resolved, I figured it's time to ask is it just me or the system?

Thanks!

What system and browser are you using? Sometimes it's a problem with cookies, especially if you're using multiple systems.

Well it's been with my Ubuntu laptop and desktop, my Suse laptop, Windows laptop and Windows desktop. Firefox on all of them, Konqueror on one, and IE on the Windows boxen.

Following up to the site from the same machine between visits has caused the same issues. Purging cache and cookies same results. Other PHPbb boards are not having any issues like this.

Can you list your steps specifically? I cannot seem to replicate the problem. From what I gather you hit the link next to the topic you taken to the post after the last post you read. When you go back to the forum and click on another post, but in the same spot to read ther new responses, you get a message stating there are no new replies?

How do you get back to the main page of the techshow forum? Do you click on the link at the top or do you use the browser back button.[/i]

Well you just described what I do in the first paragraph. I click on the yellowish square next to a topic that indicates a new post since my last visit. I get taken to the newest unread message. Then I go back to the forum messages using the back button on my browser (or the backspace key) and select the next topic and get to a page that says there are no new messages. I dont' get any posts at all, just that message.

I've used this method of navigation for these and other boards without problems up until this one. The next time I check in if there's more than one post I'll try clicking on the link at the top (though I think I tried that once, not sure though) just to add that data.

.

I just tried this method. When I click on the link back to the forum all threads are marked as read.

I don't get it. When I try this it takes me to the new messasges, no matter how many threads I hit. And I am hitting the browsers backspace button. I cannot seem to replicate this problem.

I've seen this kind of thing, but only when I read the forums across different browsers on different systems.

My suggestion is clear all caches and cookies on all browsers and ignore minor problems when using multiple systems. When reading the forums using the same browser on the same system every day, I don't have problems.

Oh well. I have no idea what the problem is or might be on my end. The last couple of times I've been here I've only used this machine. Right after your post here I did try again and it worked fine using the back button. As soon as I tried the link to go back to the forum I lost all the new posts.

This session I just tried again before posting and am again getting the 'no new posts' message with the back button.

I've only logged in to this site from this machine the last couple of times.

Eh.

Did you try clearling your cache & cookies?

That was early on and I even created a new user at one point just to check this issue out.
