don't mean to beat a dead horse or anything but windows really does suck and I mean their supposedly flagship xp pro.
my work has gone through a number of updates and last week was office and this week adobe acrobat just between those two updates I had to reboot a total of 5 times - 2 for office and three for acrobat.
WTF!! - this is insane - it is crap that isn't even on the hardware level - it is way up on the application level and I have to fricken reboot the machine.
sorry to rant but i just don't get it - the sheeple just accept this as business as usual. it is ridiculous though that I have to reboot the machine to install a word processing update and a pdf viewer update. RIDICULOUS!! but I am glad office and windows are "enterprise" ready. what bs.
it is so nice to come home to my suse box at home that does just about everything ( web serving with apparmor, movie making, print serving, firewall/connection sharing etc etc ) along with excellent xgl performance - there is such a difference - I mean night and day difference. oh and by the way there were updates needed when I came home - I installed them and that was that - no reboot needed.

To be fair to Microsoft, Windows XP is much better than previous releases in this regard. For most people this IS business as usual. They've never used an OS that was designed to be up 24/7 rather than rebooting several times a day.
