I just want something working out of the box

. Well I hate to bust his bubble ... but there is in existence such a project already. Check out Underground linux, it comes with kde perinstalled.

Ii is no longer being actively developed - and hasn't been for some time.

Just in case someone is interested, I don't really know when a new release of Underground will come out, if ever. Even though I stated I would have likely released a new version in June, this hasn't happened due to various reasons, e.g. lack of time and maybe of will. This is mainly a hobby project for me, so you can't really rely too much on it, it's somehow subject to my mood.
