Agreed it's total crap. Fake Italian food. They have them around here as well.

Yeah....Beer's ok by itself, but when you add the Kraut and Sausages.....WATCH OUT! That's a ass explosion waiting to happen.

So if noone has something else better by Tech Show Time, I am saying Barley's is it. We'll decide on a time on the show tonight (in IRC or via skype or phone if ya want).

I was looking through that list of speakers and noticed that Matthew Benjamin is speaking. I happen to know Matt he is the founder of a Linux consulting company here in Ann Arbor called The Linuxbox. I don't know if his AFS topic is interesting to anyone here but Matt really is a brilliant mind it might be worth checking out his presentation.

Anyone from the milwaukee/chicago area heading over to columbus? Curious what kind of real drive time we are talking about here. Google says about 9.5 hours. Debating going. Thinking of taking unpaid days off -- thursday and sunday nights -- and leaving when I would normally be working.

Also whats the deal with hotels? When I went to San Diego for the Desktop Linux Summit, all of the real close hotels got clobbered, but I found the budget ones a few miles out were still open, 3 days before. Similar situation here?

I'd say drive time Chicago to Columbus is more like 7-8 hours (depending on how much coffee you drink).

Columbus isn't that huge and vacation season is over, so you could probably get a room at Motel 6 or something like that a few days before the show. Something right off 270 (the beltway) is still just 10 minutes from the convention center.

Just my opinion of course. I don't live in Columbus (thank God).

My wife and I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express on the East side (Reynoldsburg?) on our honeymoon a year ago. It was about $135 a night, but if you don't want the king size bed and Jacuzzi tub, you can get off a little cheaper.

This was in early August, and the Hotel didn't seem all that full, although we got reservations.

Thanks for the info. That ought to prove mighty useful. I will see how the cashflow and soforth is the monday before. If it looks doable Ill make the drive, otherwise Ill have to videoconference or something to chill with y'all. At the very least I will be drinking a few Spatens and smoking a Macanudo or Cohiba in your honor

I don't know the layout of the city all that well. But I found out a few years ago that if you can find a hotel in the business district for a weekend stay you can get some really cool deals.

You guys realize this conflicts with the Pre-Party at the Holiday Inn that is being put on by Ohio Linuxfest? Not that we'll have quite the selection of Ale that the Barley House will have, mind you, but we'll have Free Pizza and perhaps some "refreshments" as well. As usual, no charge. Feel free to BYOB if you have something interesting to share!

If my bud from work doesnt want to go I could drive. But as I drive a pickem up truck with standard cab, a whole gang of peeps are definitely not going to fit ;D Thats where full size vans become handy ;D Or refitted school buses.... Hmmm.... refitted school buses ....

Yeah....most of us will miss that. It just depends if you want free pizza or not. Honestly, I would rather meet the guys at Barley's. With all the folks at the pre-party, it may be a bit crowded and the voices may get a bit shot. Maybe if we have time....then again, the beer is of a better quality. The odds of good beer at the pre-party is not good. Also, as large as the Linuxfest seems to be getting, it would be hard to plan anything that would not conflict with something else. We're conflicting with Oktoberfest too.

Agreed, this for the TLLTS fans, friends and whoever else wants to hang out with us. The convention pre-party sounds like fun and it's awesome they're going to have free food and refreshments but we don't do a lot of TLLTS specific events. I'd like to go check out Crew stadium (the first soccer specific stadium in America) but it conflicts with the convention after party. I'll be going to the convention post party. Barley's sounds like fun. Small place with really good beer, nice menu and good company. What more can you ask for?
