Yeah, that Ubuntu Xserver fiasco certainly puts my mind at ease...
Well, I better not comment on that, because I don't wanna start a big big flamewar!

Exactly, YOU set it up for her.
Sure I did, I was the "OEM", if Dell would do the same, there'd be no problem at all!

Again, if I guided her through it over the phone, it's something she could do. If I were to give her a Linux box and move a 1000 miles away, I'd set her up with a solid version of SUSE Linux, in this case it'd be 10.0, and if I didn't have time to set up the multimedia stuff, I'd just tell her that I would guide her through it over Skype, which I would set up for her.
With YaST, you open up the main control center, go into installation sources, add a specific repository which I would instruct my mom completely through, let it download the repo info, and go into Software Management and bam, you just search for a bunch of programs and it'll be installed.
Future versions of SUSE promise something new called Patterns, which sounds extremely cool, but I'll mention that as soon as it gets used for cool things.

You seriously need to try SUSE 10.1 again, you just plug the damn camera in and BAM, up pops a dialog asking the user what he or she wanna do. No set up needed, digiKam is there.
