True, but maybe enough people already call it OpenSUSE that it would be more trouble to try and make them use SUSE. Novell has to be paying some guy lots of money to do the research so it I trust Novell that this was a good move. If not, oh well. Pissing and moaning about it changes nothing.Tsuroerusu wrote:If you think about it, how much money would it take to write up a press write-up of the situation? Now they have to change the artwork and titles in the manual that come with the retail box, and generally all the documentation.

Personally, I think it's a stupid move, but that's just my opinion.CptnObvious999 wrote:True, but maybe enough people already call it OpenSUSE that it would be more trouble to try and make them use SUSE. Sure did on the KDE support issue last year!CptnObvious999 wrote:Pissing and moaning about it changes nothing.

Novell has a habit of playing with names of thier products. It's annoying trying to keep up with what's happening.
However, I think that this is the right move. With them having a community distro and an enterprise distro, there has to be some way for the end customer to decide on what is the better option for them. Also, when calling for support, they have to be able to figure out what distro the user is calling about. SLED or openSUSE is easier to figure out quickly. The core Suse name remains in both products, so they aren't getting rid of the herritage.
And as someone else mentioned, Red Hat/Fedora had this issue when it was first 'split' and it seems to have worked out for them....

Agreed. Sometimes you have to go with the flow. When even Novell employees are calling it OpenSUSE, it's time to make the change.CptnObvious999 wrote:FINALLY! There have been so many people confused about the name (probably because the wiki is located at opensuse.org). This is similar to when Red Hat named Fedora and I think it is in their best interests.
I just think they should have done it sooner, because all this name changing isn't building confidence in the stability of the brand. They've had a few years to get this sorted.

Yeah well, try making Debian use RPM, or change Slackware's name plus make it use SysV stuff, and while you're at it put non-Free drivers into OpenBSD.Gomer_X wrote:Almost fell out of my chair laughing..Patrick wrote:http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opens ... /0002.html![]()

The users of the distros/OSes I just mentioned are gonna have the same feeling I am having right now.
